Balcony Scene Rewrite Assignment
Lesson Reflection
The Balcony scene was the first part of the text we read and analyzed as a group since we started with the Prologue. Students jumped at the opportunity to read the different parts of Romeo and Juliet. As their peers read, students followed along and were engaged in the text. We also annotated the text as a group and students were required to submit their annotations along with the completed rewrite. Rewriting the scene allowed students to be creative and apply their own individual interests to the text. They demonstrated understanding and were able to process the scene and the characters' actions better by rewriting and applying their own scenarios, characters, and situations. This particular activity took longer than anticipated. However, students struggled to stay on task and were easily distracted. In the future, students will be required to check-in and will be allotted points for completion and participation throughout the course of the activity.
