Lesson Plan 6
Friar's Speech, Annotations, Questions, Assignment
Lesson Reflection
This was one of the most successful activities of the unity to date. Students participated in the group analysis of the Friar's Speech and they connected to the allusion and correlation of the two things being compared in the text. Students were also able to apply their own experiences to understanding the text and provided proper analysis of how this speech foreshadows the remainder of the play. Students who were present the day of analysis and group discussion produced quality paragraphs with appropriate textual evidence and supporting arguments. However, students who were absent during the group analysis and discussion of the text struggled to make up the activity. Even with the assistance of the "No Fear Shakespeare" texts, students who were absent missed the connections to the text, how it foreshadows the play, and how it connects to real-life. Students who missed out on the discussion and analysis needed to be provided with more assistance and more help in the process of understanding, applying, and evaluating the text in their paragraphs.
